its a gamming society. a community of strangers. well we don't know each other personally and since applications are exposed to public. no one wants to be bashed by their real names in public. there could come a such situation where somebody's real name could be used as leverage against someone. if you're intelligent you get the basic idea.

Edit: plus no one wants their gamming life interfering with their personal life.
